Jul 2013 – Sep 2017
I started in the company as a 2-week work experience student, before being offered the position of part-time Web Developer. Before joining the company, there were no dedicated in-house web developers and so all of our websites were outsourced. During my time at Scwirrel, I have been responsible for the branding and website development of numerous in-house divisions such as the Chester Food, Drink & Lifestyle Festival, North West Food Lovers Festival and Taste Cheshire, where I have developed the consumer-facing websites and systems such as eTicketing, voting systems for the annual Taste Cheshire Food & Drink Awards, and back-end support systems. I’ve also worked with different clients on their web projects.
In April 2014, I took the role of Director of Technology and was responsible for the IT infrastructure and decision-making to keep the organisation working efficiently. I’ve led many projects including the implementation of Active Directory, adoption of Hyper-V to replace services running on separate physical servers as well as the move to cloud services such as Office 365 and Skype for Business Cloud PBX for the business’s communication needs.
Nov 2014 - Mar 2017
Our Very Best is a brand new holiday concept specialising providing uncommon experiences based on deep personal experience, real expertise and endless local knowledge. I was brought in to speed up the development of the website systems by liaising between the team at OVB and the external development team.
I have been responsible for investigating and providing guidance on payment processing providers and hosting environments that best fit the organisation. I’ve also created working HTML mockups of the site for the sales team to demonstrate the site to potential clients at the World Travel Market in London and other conferences. I was also responsible for maintaining the key communication systems in use by the company.
Oct 2012 – Mar 2014
I started at the Golden Belt Association at a time when we were stagnating. The business was failing and technologically we were far behind other insurance and sanctioning bodies. Our website was very basic and hard to navigate and most of the company’s data was stored on paper files.
My main task was to investigate the industry and see where we were failing to compete.
Firstly I developed and integrated a new set of websites for the various divisions within the company. The website contained easily navigable pages that allowed users to easily find out information that was crucial to create new customers. I configured a targeted SEO campaign to improve the reach of the websites.
Whilst I was at Golden Belt I was also a producer at Golden Belt TV, a concept created in November 2012 in which I was tasked with bringing it to reality. The company had no experience in television and so my expertise was required. I designed and engineered the web broadcasting systems that were used by the company to broadcast events live over the internet. The systems were designed to be mobile in order to take it to events up and down the country. At each event, I was the technical director, operating the vital broadcast equipment to bring the event live and also directing camera operators.
I was responsible for maintaining the live broadcast servers that were used to broadcast live video and liaise with our video bandwidth partners.
